The MLK Food Park began as a collaborative effort between Better Block and DRBTS (Do Right By The Streets) provides South Dallas residents the opportunity to connect with local businesses with a place to gather, have fellowship. This place has allowed the community to be represented in a way that lets them be seen, valued, and to exist as themselves without being outcasted. For this event, Desiree “Dee” Powell of DRBTS partnered with Shekinah Legacy Holdings, LLC and Dallas Weekly. Scottie Smith, Founder of Shekinah Legacy Holdings, LLC showed his support of the October event by use of his property’s parking lot.
The Dallas Weekly’s partnership with DRBTS is not only media sponsorship but a collaboration for their annual Best of Black Dallas Campaign. The Best of Black Dallas is an annual voting campaign and awards ceremony celebrating Black businesses and Black professionals in the DFW metroplex. All the vendors that register for the food park will automatically be entered as a nominee for the 5th annual Best of Black Dallas Awards.
